ANNOUNCEMENT BY THE BANKING, FINANCE AND INSURANCE COMMISSION, PUBLISHED IN APPLICATION OF ARTICLE 34, § 2, PARAGRAPH 3, OF THE LAW OF 2 AUGUST 2002

The Banking, Finance and Insurance Commission hereby announces, in application of Article 34, § 2, paragraph 3, of the Law of 2 August 2002, the decision to suspend trading in the following financial instrument on a Belgian regulated market :

Trading in financial instrument Fortis, ISIN code BE0003801181 on Euronext Brussels is suspended from 09:00am on 11/02/2009. The purpose of the suspension is to ensure that the market is duly informed and that the General Meeting of Shareholders of Fortis can proceed in an orderly manner.

Resumption of trading in Fortis shares will be requested as soon as the market has been informed, via a press release from Fortis, of the decisions taken by the General Meeting.
